Frank Morley

15. Frank Morley (1860-1937)

President, 1919-1920

Sc.D. Cambridge University, U.K., 1898

Morley came to the U.S. from Suffolk, England, and spent twelve years at Haverford College in Haverford, PA. He was later a professor of mathematics at Johns Hopkins University from 1900 until his retirement in 1928, and he participated in research programs at the Carnegie Institution in Washington, D.C. until 1936. Morely wrote Introduction to the theory of analytic functions, an excellent advanced level text of the time; published many research papers in geometry; and contributed over 60 problems--mostly geometrical--that were published in Educational Times over the course of 50 years.
